Re: Match Thread Vs Blackburn Rovers
Yet after Rafael van der Vaart netted his seventh goal – all coming in six home games – Asamoah Gyan’s reply left Spurs with a share of the points.
David Bentley was given his first League start of the season against Sunderland while van der Vaart was back after missing the 4-2 defeat at Bolton.
Spurs, though, are likely to still be without a raft of key players including Aaron Lennon, Jermain Defoe, Jonathan Woodgate, Michael Dawson and Ledley King.
But Robbie Keane could be available to return, which is good news given that Roman Pavlyuchenko suffered a back injury on Tuesday and could be ruled out.
Last season Spurs did the double over Blackburn, winning 2-0 at Ewood Park and 3-1 at White Hart Lane where Roman Pavlyuchenko added two goals after Jermain Defoe had given the home side the lead.
Blackburn have won twice in their last 12 Premier League visits to Spurs, who have not kept a clean sheet since the opening day of the season, against Manchester City.
And they arrive on the back of consecutive wins, against Wigan and, on Wednesday, at Newcastle – the first time they have achieved that this season.
Last season: Blackburn 0 Tottenham 2, Tottenham 3 Blackburn 1.
Stat of the game: Striker Peter Crouch is an ever present, either from the start or as a playing substitute, for Spurs, in 50 games, since arriving from Tottenham. Only Hugo Rodallega (Wigan) and Richard Johnson (Birmingham) have matched that record since the start of the 2009-10 season.
Tottenham (Probable, 4-4-2): Gomes; Hutton, Gallas, Kaboul, Assou-Ekotto; Bentley, Huddlestone, Modric, Bale; Crouch, Keane.
Blackburn (Probable, 4-3-3): Robinson; Salgado, Nelsen, Samba, Givet; Emerton Jones, Pedersen; M Diouf, Benjani, E Diouf.
Referee: Andre Marriner. Matches: 9. R1 Y35

Re: Match Thread Vs Blackburn Rovers
I'd go for,,,,,
Gomes
Hutton Kaboul Bassong Assou-Ekotto
Modric Huddlestone Jenas Bale
Van Der Vaart
Crouch
Cudicini Gallas Corluka Palacios
Kranjcar Pavlyuchenko Keane
i think we need more energy in the midfield against Rovers to compete & have the majority of the play. Jenas is a box to box player & would release Huddlestone to be more adventurous. Bale will do as Bale does & Modric can cut inside leaving the flank clear for a revitalised Hutton to maraud forward.
VD Vaart can interplay with the midfield & get in & about Crouch in the area for the knockdowns against a very strong but cumbersome Blackburn CB pairing.
Rovers are strong at attacking free-kicks & corners so i like Crouch defending the near post when he's playing & we'd need it.
Obviously if Lennon is fit i would put him on the bench to run at there tiring defence late on if needed.
We have to be focused & up for this, as we have a very physical challenge coming. One we should overcome but only with the right attitude for the first whistle to the last!

Re: Match Thread Vs Blackburn Rovers
Tottenham face an injury crisis ahead of Saturday’s Premier League visit of Blackburn Rovers.
Tottenham could face Blackburn with a whole team of injured players on the sidelines after it was confirmed that 11 players were either already ruled out or doubtful.
Ledley King, Michael Dawson, Aaron Lennon, Jermain Defoe, Jamie O’Hara, Giovani Dos Santos and Jonathan Woodgate are out and could be joined by Roman Pavlyuchenko, David Bentley, Tom Huddlestone and Robbie Keane.
Pavlyuchenko has even undergone acupuncture in an attempt to rid him of the back problems that forced him off during Tuesday’s draw against Sunderland.
Kevin Bond, the Spurs assistant manager, said: “Pav is struggling and doubtful for the weekend. We will try anything to try and get him fit.”
There was some good news, however, with Rafael van der Vaart passed fit after a recent hamstring problem.
And Luka Modric will play despite a robust challenge from Sunderland’s Lee Cattermole in midweek.
But the injuries mean that Spurs could have just one recognised striker in Peter Crouch - and he last scored in May.
“As a striker, when you are not scoring it is always a concern,” added Bond.
“He is going through a spell without goals but he is assisting Rafa and contributing in a major way. If one went in off his backside it would suit him.”

Tale of the game
Spurs return to White Hart Lane four days after the 1-1 draw with Sunderland when, for the first time in eight League games, they did not concede the first goal.

Betting tip: Spurs need to return to winning ways. Try a 2-1 home victory at 7-1.
