1st meeting between the two clubs. I would expect another outing from the so-called "yoof team" Surely this is one they should win ? Shamrock played today and won 5-2 at home. So far this season in their league they are sitting in 2nd place with about 5 games left to play. If the link below dosen't 'highlight' copy & paste into browser for Shamrocks official website . . . . .

    Tottenham v Shamrock Rovers

Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp will rest his first team against Shamrock Rovers but still intends to field "seven or eight" internationals.

England winger Aaron Lennon will play after overcoming a groin problem and Danny Rose is back to full fitness following an ankle injury.

Roman Pavlyuchenko (hamstring) and Steven Pienaar (groin) will also play.

Redknapp said: "We've got a stronger, more experienced team tomorrow and a chance to play some of the other lads."
Giovani dos Santos, Andros Townsend, Jake Livermore and Tom Carroll are likely to figure but Michael Dawson (Achilles), William Gallas (calf) and Tom Huddlestone are out.

Huddlestone needs an operation on his ankle injury and could be out for several months.

Rovers last visited England during the 1957-58 season to face a Manchester United team made up of the Busby Babes, but they will field a familiar face in former Spurs midfielder Rohan Ricketts.

Defender Craig Sives (groin) missed the 5-2 win over Bray Wanderers at the weekend but is expected to return, while fellow defender Ken Oman (knee) could also be passed fit.

Rovers boss Michael O'Neill said: "Tottenham will be a tough challenge. You look at their players and, while people might say it will not be their strongest side, those players come in wanting to force their way into the strongest team so they are very hungry to play.

"I think we will face a top class side regardless of what the personnel is and we'll have to deal with it."

    Did you know?
Shamrock Rovers winger Rohan Ricketts made 30 Premier League appearances for Tottenham before leaving in 2005

Well done Shamrock Rovers & their fans. What a great 1st half of open, attacking football. A wonderfull advert for the game. This is more like an FA Cup 3rd round tie than a European night. Great stuff. When was the last team we played a team sponsered by Woodles DIY lol ? Loving this game so far . . . . . .

Can't criticise any Spurs player tonight & it is refreshing to see the so called "B Team" playing so freely and also in the same style as the 1st choice 11. Quality game tonight and a match I enjoyed as a Spurs fan, but also as a football fan . . . . .

Credit to Redknapp & his selection again. The mix of players fresh & established is working well. Chance for the likes of Pavy & Corluka to put themselves in the shop window for January (I reckon Pav will move back to Russia). Opportuinity for 1st choice players to get valuable game time when coming back to fitness. Also superb experince for the fringe players to show if they have what it takes to make it at The Lane. The captaincy must be doing Bassong the power of good. Many posters on here, myself included, saw Bassong as a 1st team future centre half. A major dip in form saw the lad look well out of his depth but these Europa games seem to be helping him slowly realise his poetential. Good management . . . . .

    Tottenham 3 - 1 Shamrock Rovers

Tottenham survived a scare as they fought back from 1-0 down to run out comfortable winners against Shamrock Rovers in the Europa League.

Rovers took an unlikely lead after the break when Stephen Rice flicked in Gary Twigg's long-range strike.

But their lead lasted just 10 minutes before Roman Pavlyuchenko and Jermain Defoe both headed home in the space of two minutes to wrestle back control.

Giovani dos Santos smashed home a third five minutes later to wrap up the win.
With the north London derby to come at the weekend, Spurs boss Harry Redknapp opted to rest many of his key players, although he brought back Aaron Lennon after a month out through injury.

But with the lively Dos Santos pulling the strings behind strikers Pavlyuchenko and Defoe, Spurs controlled the first half without finding the breakthrough their dominance deserved.

Rovers keeper Richard Brush diverted Defoe's 17th-minute effort on to the bar before Danny Rose smashed the woodwork with a looping strike.

Former Coventry trainee Brush also made wonderful saves to deny long-range efforts from Dos Santos and Pavlyuchenko, who had a header cleared off the line by Stephen O'Donnell.
And White Hart Lane was stunned when Rovers scored just five minutes after the restart in front of their away following.

A curling free-kick from Gary McCabe was palmed away by Carlo Cudicini to Twigg on the edge of the box and his effort was touched home by Rice.

Rovers' hopes of pulling off one of the great European shocks of all time lasted just 10 minutes before Spurs finally found their scoring touch.

Dos Santos, who has often been on the fringes at Spurs since moving from Barcelona, whipped in a fantastic cross that Pavlyuchenko emphatically headed home for his first goal of the season.

And the home fans breathed a huge sigh of relief barely two minutes later when Andros Townsend's cross was finished by Defoe.

Mexican ace Dos Santos smashed home the third five minutes later after good work from Defoe.

Former Tottenham star Rohan Ricketts came off the Rovers bench with 19 minutes to go to a warm reception from the home fans, six years after leaving the Lane.

I felt quite proud last night watching this game, what a fine bunch of youngsters we have. People go on about Wenger and his youngsters but put our's up against their's and we would come out on top every time imo, they were pure class. I do hope we hang on to Dos Santos, and I agree with DJ he was man of the match for me, perhaps a bit greedy at times when he takes on too many players when he could do the simple thing by passing to a team mate, but having said that a very exciting player to watch.

The game was boring first half complete disgrace from our perspective, half empty stands and then you had the Irish making it sound like they were at home , it just goes to show if the home fans can't turn out to support our team and take this comp seriously then why should the club, Micky mouse cup , good game second half but bitterly disappointed with the turn out.
